MRS. CHARLES HOWARD
Mrs. Charles Howard, 55, who lived near South Troy, died Wednesday of last week in St. Mary’s hospital, Rochester, after having been in ill health for some time. The former Ava Leota Lord was born May 16, 1901, in Zumbro Township, Wabasha county and lived there all of her life.She was married to Charles A. Howard on May 15, 1922. He survives.Other survivors include her mother, Mrs. Walter C. Lord, Zumbro Falls, and a sister, Mrs. Edward Mey er, also of Zumbro Falls.Pallbearers wee Harry Koepsel, Joyce Gruhlke, Dallas Adams, Merle Atkinson, Walter Wood and Robert L ortscher.
TWO MEN LEAVE WABASHA FOR INDUCTION INTO ARMY
Harry F. Lachelt, Jr., of Wabasha and Donald H. Musty, a volunteer of Mazeppa, left for Minneapolis by bus Monday,September 24, for induction into the Armed Forces.
Home Economics Teacher Hired for School Year
Good news was received this week. A home economics teacher, Miss Mary Epple of New Ulm, has been hired and will begin teaching here Oct. 1. Temporary quarters for home economics classes will be set up as quickly as possible, Supt. F.G. Eimm ermann announced this week. It will be offered to all girls in grades 7 through 12 this year. Miss Epple is a 1956 graduate of St. Catherine’ college, St. Paul.
Improvement Club Donates Silverware
The Woman’s Improvement club has been doing some little-known but very worthwhile work for the community rooms recently. The ladies have purchased two dozen place settings of stainless steel silverware. A year ago they donated two dozen silver-plate teaspoons. The club also made a contribution toward the stove when it was installed. Financing was done by the use of coupons. $1.00 projects, pie sales, etc.
The club has 10 members at present. Mrs. Marlyn Gerken is president and Mrs. Frank Almeter, secretary.
