Barbara Reiland Gentling & Mary Hoffman Mooring

We've spent the evening looking through the entire site. Good Job!!
My daughter, Darcy, LOVED "Where the Hell's Mazeppa" when she
was 2-4 years old. We knew she was awake each morning when she put the song on her F-P record player & played it about 10 times!!

Mary tried to sing along...but in her old age she could not remember
all the words!

The Christmas in Mazeppa looked like alot of fun---& maybe I'll come back for it someday.

Mary Hoffman Mooring now of Fond du Lac, WI
Barbara Reiland Gentling now of Northfield, MN.

Nice website. We gather that the community is proud of its history. But, it is curious that the website has scant indications of the State in which Mazeppa is located. (Had to click on the link to the Song "Where the Hell's Mazeppa" to find out that you're evidently in Minnesota). You might want to know that there's a Mazeppa in Pennsylvania, so that you can distinguish your own site (and perhaps establish a sister relationship).
Discovered this only because we've been trying to find out how or why the name Mazeppa came about. Have seen some reference to a poem by Lord Byron; Other reference to a Tchaikovsky opera. Can you lend any history insight? Much appreciate your mentioning something on your website. Keep up the good work.

The state is mentioned in a few areas of the website. Thank You for your inquire. We are aware of the Pennsylvania, Mazeppa. There are a few city's with the name in the US and Canada.

You are correct on the poem... that is where the name came from.

I have added a page with some information from the beginning. - Tom

The web site is fabulous and it brings back memories, and has inspired some detailed writing of how I remember Mazeppa in the 1940's and 1950's, when it was quite different from today. One thing that I would love to see on this website is the time frame (dates of or approximate time the photo was taken or the event happened). The website is growing, and as the generations pass, it would make it easier for people to make the connection with their roots to Mazeppa. At least that's my opinion.
