IN THE SERVICE Cpl. Francis Hofschulte returned to White Sans Proving Ground, New Mexico last Friday after spending a furlough here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Hofschulte. A1/C Elmer A. Miller and A1/C Henry L. Miller received their honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force, after serving a four-year enlistment period. After serving two and one half years in Japan, Elmer has been stationed at Nellis Air Force, Las Vegas, Nev., and Henry has been at F.E. Warren Air Force base in Wyoming for 44 months. They are the sons of Mr. and Math Miller of Goodhue.
MAZEPPA INDEPENDENT TEAM ORGANIZED; WILL PLAY SAT. Mazeppa will be represented by an Independent basketball team this winter, organized last Sunday at a meeting held at the high school. The first game has been set for Saturday evening, here, against Webb Oil of Rochester. Players signed up to date are; Walt Ayotte, Richard Weber, tom Klein, Raymond Leuth, Duane Tupper, Glenn Goodman and Bob Nelson. A preliminary between the 7th and 8th graders has been scheduled for 7 p.m. Players are still needed and anyone interested in playing is urged to be present Saturday night.
PEOPLES STATE BANK HOLDS MEETING; ELECT OFFICERS Peoples State Bank of Mazeppa held its annual stockholders’ meeting, Tuesday afternoon at the bank. All officers were re-elected as follows; President, Clyde E. Thomas; vice president, Fred Grossbach; cashier; V.C. Sand; assistant cashier, Miss Mary Sand; Bookkeeper is Miss Beverly Reding. The board of directors consists of the following; Max Maas, J.B. Gregoire, John Roland, Fred Grossbach, Clyde E. Thomas and V.C. Sand.
WALTER TRI APPOINTED VILLAGE CLERK, TUESDAY Walter Tri was appointed by the Village Council as Village Clerk at a meeting held Tuesday evening at the community rooms. Gilbert Schmitt, who was re-elected at the last election, disqualified himself for the job, making the appointment imperative. Mr. Tri, well known Mazeppa resident, was runner-up at the election and is well qualified for the job.
Weddings Denison-Krise Belle A. Krise of Bradford, Pa., and Charles P. Denison of Mazeppa were united in marriage at 10:30 a.m. December 18 at the First Methodist parsonage by Rev. Yinger. They were attended by the bride’s son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. LaMont Krise of Bradford. Mr. and Mrs. Denison returned here last week and are leaving soon for Arizona and Oregon on an extended trip.
John Deere Day Set for Jan. 20 John Deere Day, billed as the “Day of the Year for the Man of the Soil” will be held Thursday, January 20, at the high school gymnasium at 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by Valley Motor & Implement Co. A full-color, full-length picture, “Miss Hattie” will be featured, plus a new Gordon Family hit; “What’s New for 1955”, Oddities in Farming”, and “Power Steering Takes Over”, plus short subjects. Refreshments will be served at the garage after the program. Free Tickets may be obtained at Valley Motor & Implement Co., if not already received.
