Once again the Mazeppa Area Historical Society and the Mazeppa Lions Club teamed up for the 3rd year to welcome Santa Clause on his annual pre-Christmas scouting trip to Mazeppa. Parking his sleigh in an unknown location, he hitched a ride on a Mazeppa fire truck and arrived at the Community Center to the awaiting youngsters gathered there. First, checking out the food line of the Historical Society’s soup, chili, and fixings, he and his elf helper proceeded to hoist the little ones to his very adequate lap to find out their list for Christmas. All were provided a bag of treats by the Lions. In the mean time many folks were lining up to enjoy the chili and chicken noodle soup from the Historical Society. Many bowls were dished up and although the quantity of both soup and chili were increased from last year both of the delicacies were gone in a short amount of time. Those who were lucky enough raved at the taste of cold weather treat. Raffle prizes were given out with Rick Tri winning the handmade quilt donated by Lori Vanetta, John Deere toy tractor won by Brenda Wiech, and $50.00 cash won by Diane Gilsdorf. A good time was had by all with visits with Santa, good food, and shared conversation. Be sure to mark next year’s calendar as “more” soup and chili will be served again.
