_ On Saturday Dec. 17 the Mazeppa Area Historical Society teamed up with the Mazeppa Lions to welcome the arrival of Santa Claus to Mazeppa. With the lack of any significant snow cover Santa parked his sleigh at Lloyd and Betty Budensiek and caught a ride with them to town atop their miniature team (Hope and Sage) and wagon. With the crowd meeting him at the Community Center, the youngsters lined up to sit on the lap of the “Jolly Old Elf “ to request what they wished he would bring them for Christmas. Santa’s helper, Tinker Bell accompanied him. After a visit with Santa, children were offered rides by Loyd and Betty. The Historical Society board members along with other volunteers served chili or chicken noodle soup along with all kinds of desserts to a very good sized turnout for the festive affair. Christmas music could be heard the entire length of main street reminiscent of days gone by when numerous business drew visitor from all directions to shop and enjoy good holiday cheer in Mazeppa. - by Mike Holtorf
